- Re: 1JZ single with stock ECU? You don't need a SAFC or similar but I'd factor one in just in case, you don't want to run a more modern turbo making more power at less pressure and leaning out or having a completely different power curve and running bloody rich.
- Jan 25, 2019 · The stock turbo is really only safe to about 12psi (0.8 bar) however. It can survive at as much as 1 bar of boost (14.7 psi I think) with an ECU tune that runs a bit rich, in order to keep the exhaust gas temperature low. The reason the stock turbo's tend to fail past 12psi is exhaust temperature, which fatigues the ceramic turbine wheel.
